Oki fights the pirates
Oki, together with other major printer manufacturers, has announced that on 10th November 2004, it filed a criminal complaint against a company involved in the production of counterfeit consumables for printers in Umraniye, Istanbul.
As a result, search and seizure orders were given by the court allowing police to raid an assembly plant and warehouse and seize several thousand counterfeit Oki products. Substantial quantities of products that infringed the trade marks of other printer manufacturers were also found.
The help of the Turkish police had been crucial in the success of the operation and Oki expressed its thanks for their cooperation and efficiency. Oki will now fully support the prosecution of the counterfeiters, pressing for the maximum prison sentence.
Managing Director of Oki Europe Limited, Andrew Montgomery, highlighted the company’s commitment to sustained pressure on counterfeiters in the region. He commented that “Oki has a reputation for the vigorous protection of its intellectual property. In recent years, Oki has worked with the police in Turkey to stop companies and individuals manufacturing, supplying or otherwise dealing in counterfeit Oki products, such as toners and printer ribbons. Nine companies have been prosecuted to date and we will continue to pursue those involved in this illegal activity until it is stamped out.”
