OMAN’S IT and telecom show next month, ‘Comex 2007’, will feature more than 100 local, regional and international exhibitors.

Siemens, Ericsson and Huawei are the Platinum sponsors while Bank Muscat has signed up as the gold sponsor and Cartridge World as the silver sponsor.

Now in its 17th year, the annual event has over the years become the country’s biggest IT fair, attracting thousands of visitors. And, as in the past, this time also the show, at the Oman International Exhibition Centre in Seeb from March 26 to 30, will be divided into two sections — ‘Comex Shopper’ and ‘Comex Business’.

The event, usually organised under the auspices of Ministry of Transport and Communications, will this time be held also under the auspices of Information Technology Authority (ITA).

“This confirms the growing importance of Information Technology in the country and the strategic direction the event is heading towards,” said Ahmed Saleh Baabood, managing director of Oman International Trade and Exhibition Centre (OITE).

Last year 15,000 people visited Comex Business and more than 35,000 people visited Comex Shopper.

Sadiq added that there was a growth of 30 per cent in the number of visitors last year compared to the year previous to the last year. They are also expecting over 100 exhibitors since more space has been provided this year.

According to the officials, the marketing objective for Comex Business was to attract corporate and government purchase decision makers and Comex Shoppers objective was to attract current and future buyers of hardware, software and technology.
