Static Lexmark case comes to court

May 31, 2007

The legal battle between Static Control Components and Lexmark is coming to court. U-S District Judge James Todd is presiding over the trial this week in Lexington, Kentucky.

Lexmark wants Static Control to stop competing for its remanufactured cartridge business and accused the company of violating copyright law.

The company says of the 10 million toner cartridges it shipped last year, cartridge remanufacturers took 27 percent of the empties for refilling and reselling. One analyst says that’s worth about 200 million dollars.

Static Control has filed its own lawsuit, accusing Lexmark of monopolizing the toner cartridge market and falsely representing their products.
