ZINK Imaging ships fifty million sheets of ZINK paper, wins award

ZINK Imaging, inventors of the zero ink digital printing technology, announced a new corporate milestone – the sale of over 50 million sheets of ZINK Paper in less than six months to the ZINK imaging partner network.

ZINK is the first ink-free printing technology of its kind. This new Zero Ink platform enables a new generation of printing devices and integrated products for both consumer and commercial use. The ability to print without ink aims to make these devices embeddable, mobile, simple to use, easy to maintain, and more respectful of the planet than any other printing alternative.

People all over the world and of all ages have been using ZINK-enabled products for both work and play, from U.S. high school students and young professionals, to freelance humanitarian and travel photographers in Asia, and missionaries in Bolivia.

“Being able to print images for my subjects so immediately fits beautifully into my ethic that photography should not only be an act of taking but an exchange,” said David duChemin, a Vancouver-based freelance humanitarian and travel photographer. “If you do any kind of travel or world photography, and if your ethic compels you to give as readily as you take, a ZINK-powered product is a must-have.”

“Every night my friends and I are out, we take loads of pictures,” said Lauren Evans, a young professional in Boston, MA. “Being able to print them on the spot, hand them out at the bar, and just stick them to our shirts? It’s the best! Not to mention a great way to meet people…”

At the heart of all ZINK-enabled products is the patented ZINK Paper, an advanced composite material with embedded yellow, magenta, and cyan dye crystals. These dye crystals, named Amorphochromic™ crystals, are one of the key fundamental inventions that make Zero Ink printing possible. A ZINK-enabled device uses heat to activate and colorize these crystals. A single sheet of ZINK Paper alone contains over one billion crystals. The 50 million sheets of ZINK Paper shipped contain over 50 quadrillion crystals, which if laid out, would stretch from the earth to the moon and back more than 30 times.

ZINK Imaging owns and operates a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Whitsett, North Carolina, in the U.S. where the ZINK Paper is manufactured. Located on 85 acres, the 343,000 square foot facility consists of a 285,000 square foot manufacturing building, a 27,000 square foot utility facility, and 31,000 square feet of office and laboratory space. It is located approximately 20 miles east of Greensboro, N.C.

“Selling 50 million sheets of ZINK Paper in less than six months is an incredible achievement,” said Wendy Caswell, president & CEO ZINK Imaging. “It is a testament to the success of our partner network, the fortitude and perseverance of our team, and the magical properties of the ZINK Technology.”
