Just in time for the holiday shopping season, HP is running a “Trade-In and Save” promotion, offering consumers cash-back in a bid to sell more new printers. From now until January 2, 2010, HP is inviting consumers to trade-in their old printer and get a $50 rebate on the purchase of a new HP printer.
HP is stressing the reliability of its printers, especially compared to its rival Kodak. According to HP, 1 in 3 people on the three top retail web sites commented on serious reliability issues they had with Kodak printers. And a recent Nielsen survey found more than 1 in 3 owners experienced problems with their Kodak printer. Problems were defined as called tech support, printer needed repairs, part(s) replaced, and or returned for refund or exchange, according to the results of a 2009 Nielsen survey sponsored by HP.
Ron Coughlin, worldwide senior vice president of strategy and marketing, Imaging & Printing Group, HP said “As the market leader in printing, we have an obligation to help customers out. We are seeing overwhelming dissatisfaction from customers who purchased Kodak printers and discovered the printer they bought just isn’t reliable. These customers want a solution from HP – the company they trust for quality and reliability. Our ‘Trade In and Save’ program is a win-win for these customers; they get top-of-the-line quality and value from HP, and we in turn make happy customers.”
HP says that all printers returned to HP through the “Trade-In and Save” program will be recycled through HP Planet Partners.
