New green businesses could win thousands with competition in Metro

Mar 18, 2010

Aspiring green business owners could win thousands of pounds worth of advertising and networking thanks to a new competition launched yesterday by the free London newspaper Metro.

The competition, called Venture Candy, aims to reward up and coming new businesses with the resources they need to take off.

Winners will receive an ad campaign in Metro worth £50,000, IT support from Outsource worth over £7,000 and more than £10,000 of marketing and branding workshops with Venture Candy co-creator The Scarlett Mark.

Winners will also be given PA services from I Need a PA Now, and membership of the exclusive networking group The Hub.

Applications are open in five categories: green, design & technology, food & drink, fashion & interiors, and health & beauty.

Most any kind of green business is eligible, with Venture Candy broadly stating:

“It may be a business that helps cut our emissions, reduce our waste, or recycle what we should love to use again. It can range from a product to a scheme just as long as it’s green and makes business sense.”

Three finalists will be chosen from each category by a panel of leading entrepreneurs, including Bebo co-founder Michael Birch and moneysupermarket.com founder Simon Nixon.

Finalists will be featured in Metro and a winner for each category will be decided by a reader vote.

To enter, simply register at http://www.venturecandy.co.uk. Final entries must be submitted by 6 April.
