As part of its Earth Day 2010 programme, the office supplies company has launched “Trade-In, Trade-Up Event – 400 Ton Challenge” to help customers get their money back for old electronics.
Office Depot aims to collect 400 tonnes of products during the one-month promotion window, helping customers grow greener and prevent e-waste from ending up in landfills.
It is also encouraging customers to submit ideas on how their business is growing greener. For each green idea submitted, Office Depot will plant a tree on the customer’s behalf with the goal of planting 4,000 trees by the end of May.
Other initiatives include “Green Offers for Your Business” and “Featured Green Products”.
Yalmaz Siddiqui, Office Depot’s Director of Environmental Strategy, said: “By helping our customers to grow greener, we are planting a seed to encourage everyone, no matter how environmentally conscious they may already be, to grow greener in ways that are meaningful to them.”
Office Depot has 1,584 worldwide retail stores, with a $4.1 billion e-commerce operation. It has annual sales of approximately $12.1 billion, and employs about 41,000 associates around the world.
The Earth Day Network will be holding The Climate Rally in Washington, DC on April 25. It hopes to get the White House to pass legislation on reducing America’s dependence on foreign oil, a campaign running since the start of Earth Day.
