The high cost of consumables was found to be the biggest problem by the survey, which was carried out by MarketTools on behalf of Lexmark.
To counter this, Lexmark points out its own newly released return programme cartridges, costing just $4.99 for a black inkjet cartridge. They also offer their Lexmark Rewards programme, which can net users free ink, toner and imaging kits.
The second biggest problem was the cost of print media, which Lexmark says can best be countered by avoiding printing where possibly by use of scanning and emailing documents where possible, as well as printing double sided pages.
The next issue is one all print users can relate to – paper jams. This video can help you quickly deal with that inevitable printer jam when a deadline is looming.
Maximising ink and toner use was the fourth issue highlighted, and one that Lexmark says can be best addressed by taking “low ink” warnings with a pinch of salt. While low ink levels can reduce quality, this might not necessitate a cartridge change straight away – not all copies need to be perfect, such as for rough drafts and proofing.
The fifth and final problem is frequency with which printing supplies need to be replenished. High yield cartridges can help companies with large print volumes make the most of their purchases. Lexmark also offers an online Cartridge Finder SmartSolution to help businesses find the nearest retailer stocking what they need.
