By working with Lexmark, Earth Rangers reduced the amount of printers at its HQ Woodbridge, Ontario by 70 percent, with the old printers being recycled. It was also able to cut paper usage by nearly 35 percent.
“Besides their ability to meet our needs technologically, Lexmark’s unique approach to printing – in fact, their radical approach as a printing company – blends very well with our mission of reducing our carbon footprint, energy and paper consumption,” says Earth Ranger’s Senior Manager of Development, John Pepelnak.
Earth Rangers is a non-profit organization that focuses on educating children about the environment. They have taught thousands of children about concerns like animal care and recycling, and aim to teach them ways to care for the environment in day-to-day life at home.
A key part of the project was Lexmark’s Print Less, Save More programme.
“When it comes to printing, if you’re serious about protecting the environment, you must address the amount you print,” says Lexmark Canada President Tim Emens.
“That is one of the key reasons Lexmark developed the ‘Print Less, Save More’ approach. Energy use, product recycling, and materials used in production are all important environmental concerns, however, 80 per cent of the carbon footprint of any printing device is directly related to the paper it consumes.”
