The Polish company is also working with businesses to place containers in offices for empty toner cartridges. It aims to hand out 100,000 envelopes a month for inkjet cartridges.

Eco Service explains that the user just needs to put an empty inkjet cartridge inside the ‘eco-letter’ and post it to the organiser of the drive.

There is no need for a stamp as the letter is pre-paid and the envelope comes with the recipients address already printed on it.

According to Eco Service, the Polish have bought 7.35 million pieces of printer supplies of which only a small percentage was recycled after use.

CEO Marcin Adamski said: “We intend to hand out as much as 1.2 million [envelopes] this year. We hope that it will help us promote the idea of recycling in Poland. No extraordinary effort is necessary. What may seem to be a small gesture changes a lot.

“It is so because the drive has a double meaning – apart from making eco friendly attitudes more popular, we donate part of the financial resources obtained thanks to the collection drive to UNICEF or the Polish mountains forest planting programme.”

Eco Service is one of the biggest empties collector in Europe, America and Asia. Each year it collects over 3.5 million empty ink and toner cartridges.
