End-of-life cartridge recycler searches for plant to use its plastic for new cartridges

Apr 26, 2010

On-Line Services is looking for a manufacturer that is willing to produce new-mould compatible cartridges with the plastic it obtains from end-of-life cartridges.

Giovanni Musanti of On-Line says he is looking for a company that can work with the mixed plastic that his company extracts, a mixture of three polymers, mainly PS-ABS.

He believes that there are a few companies that deal with this but the “deeper economic crisis hasn’t helped”.

The Italian company would prefer a Chinese plant. “In China we see strong increase for the industrial activity, double digit growth in the first quarter of this year,” said Musanti.

In the hope of increasing its customer base, Musanti says that the company sees “economic opportunity by avoiding sending this material to landfill”.

He added: “We know the recycling/WEEE platform market for many years and this is a cost-effective reply to recycle in a good way the broken/non reusable laser cartridges.”

On-Line is located just outside of Milan, Italy. It began as a reseller for major OEMs in the 1990s but moved towards cartridge recycling in the mid 90s.
