Redeem targets spring cleaners for empties

Apr 30, 2010

The Recycling Appeal aims to turn the “trash into cash” and donate the money to charities RSPB, RNIB, CHAS, Roy Castle Lung Foundation and Macmillan Cancer Support.

The cartridges will be refilled. The new scheme will also include old mobile phones.

Jamie Rae, Chief Executive of Redeem, said: “Nobody would throw hard cash in the bin, but by discarding old electronic items people are effectively chucking money into a landfill site. It only takes a few minutes to dig out old phones or cartridges, but it could benefit some of the UK’s most vulnerable groups and the world’s eco-system.

“By doing a spring clean many people will uncover electronic items they don’t even remember buying. They might be hidden at the back of cupboards or lurking unnoticed in messy drawers, but these discarded items could be worth a considerable amount of cash to the recycler and also to our charity partners.”
