HP India under investigation for tax evasion

Indian officials say that HP has evaded $322 million in taxes, the latest in a series of legal accusations from international governments, according to  the Wall Street Journal.

India’s Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, which investigates tax fraud, found that HP has avoided paying tax on shipping computers, printers and scanners into the country.

A HP spokesperson said: “HP India has been transparent and has cooperated fully with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in its investigation. HP India refutes the DRI’s position and will challenge its claims through the judicial process.”
