Epeat is an environmental standard for electronic equipment that is currently in development, and UKCRA was heavily involved with the 1680.2 standard, which relates to imaging equipment.
Heywood says that UKCRA has been involved with the standard since March 2009, and thinks that their input greatly affected how the standard was developed.
She hopes the standard will create big changes in the way people buy electronic equipment, believing that individuals as well as business always prefer to buy equipment that is guaranteed to be environmentally conscious. She hopes Epeat will have a strong effect in both the USA and many other countries when it is brought into effect in June 2012.
More information about the meeting can be found in the upcoming June issue of the Recycler.
