Coastal Image Technologies organizes tree planting scheme

May 25, 2010

On Friday 30 April, a number of students of all ages came together and got their hands dirty planting a variety of tree species.

The school earned the tree sponsorship for its efforts in e-waste recycling. Jaffery Academy has been participating for many years in the empty inkjet and toner cartridges recycling programme, which has given them a greater understanding of recycling. They are now more knowledgeable about the three Rs – reduce, reuse, recycle. It is through these types of programmes that they have gained the recognition and motivation to work on protecting the environment.

The project was sponsored by Coastal Image Technologies Ltd in conjunction with Coastaltec, a leading brand of recycled toner cartridges in Kenya.

“We want to thank Jaffery Academy for also implementing many environmental education programmes that are now integral to the school curriculum” said Fatema Somji, Marketing Manager of Coastal Image Technologies.

The students were assisted by their head teacher Ms Chanyarra and Caroline Katana and Fatema S. Somji from Coastal Image Technologies Ltd.

“The children enjoyed the activity and learnt about saving the environment and their future by ensuring they gain essential skills and knowledge that they can take with them beyond school grounds,” Somji told Recycler. Adding “Tree Day helped students gain a greater understanding of climate change and the small changes they can make in their lives to nurture our world”.

Coastal Image Technologies Ltd strongly encourages more schools to register with them for the Inkjet Recycling Programme in order to create awareness amongst children from an early age to reduce their carbon footprint.
