Canon sued over excess copy charges

Jun 24, 2010

ABC claims that it noticed that meter readings taken by Canon did not appear to accurately reflect the number of copies actually made on the leased copiers.

The copy and print firm said that it asked Canon numerous times, orally and in writing, to repair the copiers and to take accurate readings, to no avail.

According to court documents, ABC’s Jamshid Aryeh began keeping his own record and found that he was being charged for test copies made when Canon repaired or serviced the machines.

As a result, he says that Canon failed to reimburse for the overcharges and also charged him late fees.

Under the agreement, ABC said it agreed to pay a monthly fee in return for a monthly copy allowance. It also said it would pay an additional excess copy charge for an extra copies beyond the monthly allotment.

Canon has been contacted for a response.
