The OEM’s printing and solutions business saw sales increase to JPY 84 billion in the first quarter, up seven percent from JPY 79 billion ($924 million) in the same period in 2009.
Within this segment, sales from the communications and printing equipment also saw a seven percent rise to JPY 75 billion ($877 million) from JPY 70 billion ($819 million).
The firm’s net income nearly tripled to JPY 8.7 billion ($101 million) from JPY 3.3 billion (38 million) in 2009. Operating income more than doubled to JPY 13 billion ($152 million), compared to JPY 6.3 billion ($73 million) in Brother’s first quarter last year.
