US celebrates America Recycles Day

Nov 15, 2010

Started by the National Recycling Coalition in 1997, and now part of Keep America Beautiful, the one-day event aims to educate as many people as possible about recycling.

More than 2,000 events have been registered for today, details of which can be found using a ZIP code search function on the Keep America Beautiful site.

The day enjoys a wide variety of sponsors and support, including businesses like Pepsico, Waste Management and Earth911.com, and government support from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Mathy Stanislaus, EPA’s Assistant Administrator for Solid Waste and Emergency Response, said: “On America Recycles Day, EPA encourages all Americans to consider their role in creating a healthy environment by being responsible consumers.

“By making smarter choices, consuming less, and reusing and recycling, each of us can contribute to a healthier and more sustainable environment.”
