The publicity for this offer reads: “For the first time in Indian Printing History, an offer from the new leader, that is as amazing as it is unbelievable. Now get Full Cash Back on Canon Laser Printers”. The small print explains what consumers need to do to get their cash back.
The OEM’s Consumer Systems Products (CSP) division has informed consumers that by following a list of instructions they can either begin to earn their money back or save up points to collect a free gift.
The LBP2900b and LBP3300 models are included in the deal, with consumers who purchased one of the models between January 1 and June 30 2010 needing to register their printer and details with Canon. Then, for each OEM toner cartridge purchased from Canon, a special code is included, which can then be entered on the Canon website to earn the customer 100 points.
Gifts are awarded for each 100-point level, and reaching 1000 points allows the customer to claim back the full cost of the printer. With each printer costing around £100 each, and each basic cartridge for the printers costing around £56, it will cost consumers a total of £560 to make their £100 investment in the printer back.
The initiative is only available in India, and is part of CSP’s Canon Loyalty Achievement Program (CLAP). Consumers can take up the offer up to two years from the date they purchased the printer, which the OEM describes as an ‘unbelievable but true’ offer.
The OEM has been active in pushing new marketing initiatives in the Indian market, where it is currently the leader in laser printing. It claims that the CSP division alone attained a growth of 88% in the first half of this year, along with a 35% market share in Q1 2010.
