ABC Trade and Investment – a Sri Lankan distributor of IT equipment – says it has been instrumental in introducing the concept of ink and toner cartridge recycling to Sri Lanka. Their role in the nationwide E-Waste Management Programme will be to collect and recycle used and empty ink and toner cartridges. Designated bins for used ink and toner cartridges will be placed in private and state sector offices across the country.
ABC Trade and Investments’ CEO A. Jayaseelan said: “Most of the institutions regularly discard their used computer ink cartridges and toner cartridges which is a waste of money and hazardous to environment. In our project, we are focusing on reducing e-waste while protecting the environment and saving considerable amount of money to the consumer by reusing.”
He added, “Remanufacture enables us to reuse the same cartridge multiple times and prevents wastage of natural resources and landfill, as a developing country Sri Lanka too saves by way of reduced foreign exchange spending.”
Sri Lanka’s Central Environment Authority (CEA) has launched the E-Waste Management Programme in an attempt to alleviate the environmental impact caused by the increase in computers and technology in the country. 14 other private companies will also be participating in the Programme.
