Xerox introduces the 8570 solid ink printer

Dec 29, 2010

The OEM believes that its solid ink models produce 90 percent less waste than laser printers, as well as both a 30 percent lower lifecycle energy demand and carbon footprint.

Xerox’s solid ink printers use solid ink sticks of ink as opposed to toner or inkjet cartridges. The OEM says that solid ink is ‘easy to use’, produces ‘incredible color print quality’, is ‘cost-effective’, and is ‘very good for the environment’.

Xerox says that its solid ink ‘produces high-quality color prints and generates 90 percent less waste than comparable color laser printers’. The technology uses wax-like ink that melts into the paper without the need for a cartridge.

The printer works at speeds of up to 40 pages per minute in both color and black, and Xerox believes that it is ‘ideal for offices that depend on color for business proposals, reports and fliers, as well as everyday documents such as e-mail and spreadsheets’.

The ColorQube range has previously won accolades from the industry, with its solid ink range having been in the works for the last decade.
