The company’s environmental agenda focused on business operations and minimising carbon footprint of Canon products until the recycling stage.

The OEM also stated that the signing of a partnership agreement, with Emirates-based technology recycler EnviroServe, has proved to be one of its more successful moves towards a more environmentally friendly mode of operation.

EnivroServe works with the OEM to ensure proper disposal and recycling of end-of-life Canon products, such as printers, as well as parts across the Middle East. EnviroServe also has works alongside Xerox, collecting toner cartridges from across the region for recycling.

Canon also announced that it had achieved ISO 14001 certification, the international standard for environmental management. The company has also begun to use plant-derived biomass plastics in its products, as well as working towards using 100 percent recycled materials during product development.

“Canon recognizes the critical importance of protecting and conserving the environment by implementing sustainable practices across all areas of our business operations,” said Anurag Agrawal, Managing Director of Canon Middle East.

“For this year, we are pleased to have continued to make progress in reducing the company’s overall carbon footprint while we have also succeeded in dramatically reducing the CO2 emissions of our products over their entire lifecycle, which is a significant achievement by any standard,” Agrawal added.

“Through Canon’s proactive environmental commitment, we hope to set an example for others to emulate and to ultimately encourage all members of society to contribute in making our planet and our communities a much better place to live,” he concluded.
