3D printing has developed in leaps and bounds in recent months, from creating fully functioning flying drones to revolutionising space travel by creating tools in zero gravity.
But it can also be used for fun, as MakerBot’s Michael “Skimbal” Curry recently proved by creating real-life versions of the famous turtle shells from Nintendo’s Mario Kart racing games. Watch the video below to see them in action.
Curry used his MakerBot 3D printer to create the colourful models, and although he won’t be selling them, he has made the design available for use by anyone with a machine.
3D printing uses technology very similar to that of traditional inkjet printing to create thin layers of plastic on top of each other to create a 3D shape. The technology has garnered a lot of buzz over its ability to create complicated shapes quickly with little waste. Pelikan is among companies that have already adopted the technology.
