United States transportation authorities have said the United Arab Emirates and other Middle Eastern countries need no longer continue to bar ink and toner cartridges over a certain weight, reports The National.
Emirates Post and other postal services in the region had placed restrictions on cartridges weighing more than 450g in the wake of the attempted terrorist bombing using a toner cartridge packed with explosives, in order to meet with US Transportation Security Administration guidelines.
Two explosive devices had been hidden inside toner cartridges and shipped from Yemen to the US in November, but were discovered and disarmed at Dubai and UK airports thanks to a tipoff.
The TSA has now decided to adjust its policies after postal services in many countries complained the restrictions disrupted their operations.
However, according to the National many postal services have not received any notification that the policy has been revised, and continue to restrict cartridges over 450g.
