Illinois is the latest state to ban all e-waste from being dumped.
The US state of Illinois will be banning all electronic waste from its landfills next year, according to the Naperville Sun.
The ban will come into force on 1 January 2012, making Illinois the 23rd state to bar e-waste from its landfills. North Carolina enacted laws to ban electronics including computers, scanners and printers from its landfill in July this year.
The move will be a boon for companies which collect, recycle and remanufacturer electronics, as individuals and businesses will be forced to look for new ways to dispose of their unwanted items.
The Naperville Sun reports that local e-waste businesses have already seen strong trade this year. Megan Bistry of Vintage Tech Recyclers Inc. said that the company has already processed around 150,000 lbs of electronics since a county-wide drop-off scheme began in April.
