Award contested by 30 waste initiatives to be determined on 15 November.
Holland-based international collector Van Klaveren CCC has been nominated for the Waste Free Award 2011, set up to award organizations that encourage people and employees to prevent waste and is being sought by 30 different waste initiatives.
Van Klaveren collects empty cartridges and used mobile phones under trademarks including Eeko and Total Collect, and collects from schools, businesses and organizations, last year collecting over 3.2 million cartridges and phones.
Gerhard Van Klaveren, Managing Director, Van Klaveren CCC, commented: “The collected empty inkjet and toner cartridges and mobile phones will be processed in our warehouse. The materials are suitable for direct reuse and will be sent to remanufacturers and refurbishing companies. The remaining six percent goes to recycling companies.
“Everyone at home or at work has some empty cartridges and old mobile phones: hand these in; they are worth money! People are able to choose for a compensation to donate to a charity. Companies have the possibility to get the compensation for themselves.”
Speaking of the Zero Waste Award, Gerhard Van Klaveren remarked on his pride for the nomination, stating “it would be an honour for me if I would win this award”.
