The new Colorio E820 sports a retro design.

Epson have released a new portable colour printer, the Colorio E820, for the Japanese market. Digital Versus commented on the retro style of the device, stating “it looks like a cross between a BBC Micro and a microwave oven”.

The E820 is measured at 23.5 x 15.8 x 19.2cm and weighs 2.6kg. It has a seven inch pixel display and is compatible with Mac OS and Windows, and can also read USB keyboards and memory cards.

The printer is priced in the region of ¥50,000 ($650/ €483), although compact photo printers make up one percent of the market in Japan.

Do you think the device will be successful, and cross over into European and American markets, or will the retro stylings prevent it from finding a foothold? Leave a comment below.
