iPhone app to allow consumers to interact with printers in promotional materials.
Brother has launched a new ‘Brother AR’ app which will allow consumers to scan segments of promotional materials for Brother products with your iPhone camera which will mock up Brother products and animations on-screen, reports Smart Office.
Augmented reality, or AG, is a view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are modified by computer-generated imagery and sound. In the instance of the Brother AG app, printers and products will be visible through the screen while overlapping input from the camera.
Yuji Furukawa, Representative Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer, Brother, commented: “Innovation alone is not the answer to today’s growing tech-savvy population. It is more on the lines of the development and creation of a product that can exceed customer expectation with the infusion of new technology, ease of use and is backed with strong after-sales support and the millions of Brother end-users, who are not only from this region but from across the world.”
The app is currently available in Asia-Pacific markets, although Brother has announced an Australia-specific version to be released in 2012. An Android version is also planned for 2012.
