Philippines president leads inauguration of new factory in the Philippine province of Batangas.

Printer manufacturer Seiko Epson inaugurated its new $110 million manufacturing plant on 8 December, reported The Mainichi Daily News.

The plant, to specialise in inkjet printer and projector manufacturing, was completed in September to boost production in order to meet increasing global demand, and Epson has stated that the new factory is expected to double inkjet printer production capacity to around 6 million units.

Epson Precision (Philippines) currently has an inkjet printer facility located in Lipa City, adjacent to the new manufacturing plant.

The inauguration was led by President of the Philippines Benigno Aquino III, who commented that the plant is due to increase the company’s workforce in the country from 6,000 to 8,000, “who will then by able to earn a decent living, keep food on their tables and send their kids to school”.

Aquino III added: “Allow me to say that I am very thankful for your confidence in our country.”

Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines, Toshinao Urabe, was also present at the inauguration, and spoke of the plant as “a real action towards economic growth, better income, and more employment for the Philippines”.

He continued: “It is also a vote of confidence to the Philippine economy and the hardworking Philippine workers.”
