Expert Laser Services’ Nathan Dube discusses the possibility of using the new technology in MPS and marketing.
Dube, writing on his Adventures in Office Imaging blog, mentions the possibility for MPS to utilise Augmented Reality technology.
Augmented Reality, as defined by Wikipedia, is “a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data”.
The technology is presented through smartphones and allows users to interact with the environment seen through their camera. Dube believes that augmented reality “could be used…to supplement the physical walk around of a traditional printer fleet analysis”, adding that this would include making a “three dimensional map of a managed print services customer’s business”.
Whilst Dube notes his boss “whilst amused…did not decide to look into making this a reality”, he adds that if he “at least present[s] the idea perhaps there are other people who have the funds and other tools necessary to manifest said application”.
Dube said he also sees such a service “synchronized with services like PrintFleet” in order to create a “virtual collection of data post physical analysis” which would in turn help “streamline and improve the continued data collection process”, and concludes that “if anyone out there can do this and shares my enthusiasm […] have at it”.
