Delhi court launches case against fake Canon products

Jul 9, 2012

City police have registered a case of persistent illegal use of the “Canon” trademark on printers and inkjet and toner cartridges.

Delhi city police have registered a case of illegal use of the “Canon” trademark under the advice of the Delhi court, following complaints made by the OEM in April 2012, reports Business Standard.

The OEM stated that unknown persons or firms were selling laser printers and inkjet and toner cartridges in the market under the trademark “Canon”. Packaging featured an identical 3D logo and livery, and also included the OEM’s contact details.

Canon states that the printers being sold are “of inferior quality, which amounts to cheating the entire trade and general purchasing public”. The OEM has highlighted in its complaint that the company’s “laser printers, inkjet printers and cartridges are very famous in India and have a very good reputation” due to “performance and efficient quality”.

A first information report (FIR) has been filed on a complaint of copyright and trademark violation by Canon.
