Ben Miller is appointed as chief patent counsel of colour printing technologies company.
The chief patent counsel role will see Miller overseeing Memjet’s foreign and domestic intellectual property portfolio and managing all legal matters relating to the portfolio, working from Memjet’s corporate offices in San Diego. The company currently holds more than 5,000 patents worldwide, with an additional 700 patents pending.
The intellectual property portfolio covers “fast, affordable colour printing” centring on “revolutionary” printheads and the use of Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS).
Len Lauer, Chairman and CEO of Memjet commented on the appointment of Miller: “With our recent acquisition of all Memjet intellectual property and the creation of Memjet Australia, a top priority as a company is our patent strategy […] Ben’s deep experience in global patent evaluation, filing and maintenance will serve us well as we accelerate our growth and support our OEM customers in the commercialization of Memjet technologies.”
Miller will join Memjet after serving as chief patent strategist and senior vice president at Qualcomm, a world leader in 3G and next-generation mobile technologies.
The company has also recently appointed David Osborn as patent counsel after he served for nine years as in-house patent attorney for Silverbrook Research, the original developer of Memjet technologies. Osborn will work from Memjet’s Australian offices in Sydney.
Memjet assumed control of its intellectual property portfolio in May after settling with co-founders Silverbrook Research over a battle over ownership of the company.
