Canon India senior director discusses environmentally friendly printing at “power breakfast”.
Technology website Express Computer Online reported that K Bhaskar, Senior Director, OIS Division at Canon India recently spoke at a breakfast meeting on ways in which carbon emissions can be reduced when printing, noting that monitoring the amount of printing taking place and consolidating the number of printers used within a business so that they are shared by departments rather than a few individuals could help the environment as well as reducing printing costs.
Discussing the idea of a paperless office, Bhaskar purportedly suggested that organisations should install a network printer for each department to enable easier monitoring of how much is printed so that the amount of unnecessary prints can be reduced.
Bhaskar explained Canon’s policy on buying back old printers from businesses willing to adopt this method, saying: “All the machines have a depreciated book value as per the rules of finance. We buy out the old printers from organizations at the prevailing price and, as a replacement, we give you network printers that are strategically placed in the office. This helps in monitoring wastage.”
Other issues raised by delegates in attendance included the rising cost of printing and the issue of counterfeiting, with Bhaskar purportedly stating that printer companies could not be accused of pricing cartridges too highly as “they delivered better quality and more prints than refills”.
