Vietnam technology ban will not affect remanufactured cartridges

Jul 24, 2012

The ban on a range of second hand technology in Vietnam will not affect cartridges sent to the country for remanufacturing.

Cartridges for the intention of remanufacturing will not be subject to a forthcoming ruling banning a selection of second-hand technology products from entering Vietnam, reports Bernama.

The ban, to come into effect from September 2012, will include mobile phones, laptops, tablet computers and office equipment such as printers, fax machines, photocopiers, text-processing devices among others.

However the ban will not include products entering the country for “maintenance, refurbishing, remanufacturing” or devices intended for “production, study and research”.

The ruling is intended to prevent industrial waste and to protect consumer rights, and the Information and Communications Ministry has stated that imports will be subject to regular inspection.

In February 2012, compatibles manufacturer Farbax announced its intentions to leave its manufacturing plant in Vietnam and reiterate its focus on Europe, noting that “without connections the company couldn’t build up the market for continuous success in Asia”.
