Jul 31, 2012

Discarded cartridges would circle the earth more than three times and 75 percent of consumers do not recycle, reminds Re-Inks.

Consumables vendor Re-Inks has published an infographic reminding consumers and customers of the advantages of using remanufactured ink cartridges, available here.

The infographic, which credits Lyra Research for the information contained within, includes a number of details and facts including the quantity of discarded cartridges could be stacked end-to-end and circle the earth three times.

Additionally, more than 75 percent of consumers do not recycle or refill cartridges, and are credited as contributing to more than 45,000 tonnes of landfill annually.

Despite encouraging figures including 100 million remanufactured cartridges sold worldwide in 2011, 800 million inkjet and toner cartridges are sold in the US alone each year and 150 million cartridge users has never purchased a remanufactured cartridges.

The figures are increasingly shocking when considering that $24 billion (€19.5 billion) dollars are spent on inkjet and toner cartridges in the US annually.

The infographic concludes: ”US consumers print trillions of pages every year. Only half of them have ever bought a remanufactured inkjet cartridge or toner cartridge. This huge untapped market would like to save money on printer ink… but they need a trusted, convenient source to get it from.”
