Sharp denies business sale

Aug 20, 2012

Following an article on Nikkei, Sharp has issued a letter to US dealers stating that the OEM is not negotiating the sale of its businesses.

Despite widespread reportage that Sharp Corporation plans to sell its copier and air conditioners businesses in a purported bid to focus on mobile phones and consumer electronics, Sharp US has denied that it is currently negotiating sales with a letter from President Doug Albregts, reports Industry Analysts.

Although also reported by Interakyson and CNBC among others, Albregts categorically states that “Sharp is not currently negotiating the sale of the businesses, such as Copier and Air-Conditioner that Nikkei has reported in their article.”

Noting that “it is important for you to know that these are the words of our Exceutive Management in Japan, not simply the opinion of local management,” Albregts attempts to reassure any concerned parties by reminding them that “Sharp’s document business is profitable and we are in the process of launching some of our most innovative products and services for our dealer community.”

Albregts also denoted in his letter that the OEM is “under the process of revitalising its business and is exploring all options to improve the financial condition of the company.”
