RISOLAR Power stand advanced printer announced for use in Africa.

The Liberian Observer reports on the launch of the RISOLAR power stand, which is designed to run the RISO KZ30 printer and is “mainly intended for the education sector”.

Produced in Shiba, Minato-ku and Tokyo, Japan, the RISOLAR power stand was launched by Steven T. Mar vie Jr., a representative of Commerce Minister Miatta Beysolow. It will purportedly enable the RSIO KZ30 printer to produce 1,000 copies per day […] and “has sufficient back up for an extra two days without sun”.

A solar panel must be placed “under full sunlight” for no less than six hours per day in order for the RSIOLAR power supply to work, thus it has been “specially made for African countries because of the sunny weather”, although the product has also been used in the United States.

Jason Rose, Export Manager at RISO reportedly said that 30 of the printers will be marketed to educational institutions in Liberia before going on to be sold for private use, and that 50 had already been bought in South Africa.

“Even when printing and the power goes down, one can still be able to print. This solution is perfect for areas with sporadic power issues and provides you with up to 2 days worth of printing without electricity,” Rose commented. He also added that the RISOLAR power stand can be used to charge mobile phones and other devices “provided there is enough sunlight to charge the solar plate”.

The RISO KZ30 has a capacity of 500 sheets and a “fully automatic” ink supply able to produce “approximately 100 sheets per roll”. It also features auto based control, auto sleep mode and scanning capabilities.
