Tool capable of monitoring paper usage and initiating eco-friendly settings, claims OEM.

Sharp has announced the first version of its multifunction printer (MFP) eco-driver, for use in the Middle East and Africa, reports ITWeb.

The tool purports to become a “fundamental” part of an office printing policy, informing users of the environmental effect attached to their printing, referred to as their eco-balance. With this information, users are able to select “smart printing options” including multi-page documents to be printed in duplex mode, and the option to condense four pages of printing onto a single sheet.

Sharp claim that a three-page document printed in duplex mode, and two pages printed on one side, will enable a paper saving of 67 percent.

South Africa Business Development Manager Shaun Andrews commented: “The eco-driver tool is an ideal way for businesses to get their staff to monitor paper usage and to begin cutting costs. It gives a tangible, visual way of seeing how much paper has been saved by using particular settings, and will allow employees to see the positive resource saving effect.

“All users of printing solutions can benefit from eco-friendly tools through seeing a reduction in costs and improvement in the economy of their paper usage while establishing a best-practice print policy.”
