By replacing one laser printer with an inkjet printer, small businesses in Australia could save $45 million per year, claims Epson.
The OEM claims that around 740,000 Australian businesses could save A$45 million ($46.7 million/€37.3 million) in a year and help to reduce their environmental impact if they each replaced a single laser printer with one of its business inkjet printers, based on independent assumptions about average use.
The savings are a result of a reduction in the amount of electricity used in inkjet printers of “around 43 million KwH/year, cutting power costs for businesses by “more than A$8.6 million ($8.9 million/€7.1 million)”. In addition, ink for business inkjet printers would cost “at least A$35 million ($36.3 million/€29 million) less” than the toner needed for laser printers, and Epson claims that the auto-duplexer feature on its inkjet printers would save 221,794 reams of paper at a cost saving of A$1,219,865 ($1,266,164/€1,012,283) if businesses chose to print double-sided for 25 percent of print jobs.
Mike Pleasants, Director of Marketing Communication for Epson Australia commented: “Laser printers have become anchors that are stopping small businesses from improving productivity and cutting costs […] business inkjet printers have lower costs per printed page, use less electricity, are faster, have a lower purchase price for comparable printers, and have features like auto-duplexing that can help cut costs even more while improving productivity.
“Laser printing technology has been around for 30 years. We have now reached the tipping point where technology advances in business inkjet printers mean they easily outperform business lasers (in the same price range) on all key office productivity measures.”
