Toner thief charged with grand larceny

Antonio Lester James is accused of attempting to steal more than $2,400 in printer ink and electronic goods from a Walmart store.

21 year old Antonio Lester James have been charged with fourth degree grand larceny, and is accused of attempting to steal more than $2,400 (€1,841) in printer ink and electronic merchandise from a Walmart store, reports the Batavian.

James, from Rochester, is said to have placed the goods in a plastic tote bag while inside the Walmart before attempting to run away from the store. Democrat and Chronicle report that the incident took place at approximately 14:30 at the Walmart of Veterans Memorial Drive, Batavia.

James was also subsequently charged with promoting prison contraband and, during procession into the Genesee County Jail, was allegedly found in possession of a small quantity of marijuana.

Printer cartridges remains popular among prospective ne’er-do-wells. Barry Goodhead and John Watson were sentenced to 20 months and four months suspended imprisonment respectively in August following the production and sale of almost £2.5 million ($3.9 million/€3.1 million) in counterfeit cartridges, and Gloucestershire Police recently released an efit image of a man suspected of stealing two printer cartridges from a store in Stroud.
