Kyocera India claims compatible cartridge causes printer damage

Head of National Service Deepak Agrawal claims that the “drum, development and fuser assembly” are “spoiled” after two to four months using compatible cartridges.

Deepak Agrawal, Head of National Service, Kyocera Document Solutions India, has made several comments encouraging customers not to use compatible cartridges, claiming that they produce severe printer faults within two to four months on a public LinkedIn forum.

Agrawal claims that compatible cartridges “will soon spoil your machines and you will end up in spending huge sum[s] of money on repairs later on. We have been approached by many such customers who have been using compatible cartridges in their machines for just three-four months.

“Now all of them have to pay heavily on the repairs of their machines since the drum, the development and the fuser assembly get spoiled very soon by using compatible cartridges.”

Agrawal claims to be contacted on a daily basis by “at least 15-20 compatibles users wherein the machine is completely spoiled” and urges consumers to purchase genuine products.

His claims were challenged in the discussion by Stephen Trendler, Biniam Hirut Debabe and Sanjeev Mahajan among others. Each commented that Agrawal’s claims are unfair and inaccurate, noting that while poor quality compatible cartridges can result in drum and fuser issues high quality compatibles “when formulated, manufactured and tested properly […] will work flawlessly”.

Agrawal remained steadfast in his assertions despite protestations and calls for further evidence, stating that “we don’t need to test anything on this account because our customers have already tested all the compatible items and have majorly suffered by heavy cost of repairs” and specifically claimed “all the OEMs have stopped the service and spares/supplies support to any customer found using compatible/local/spurious to any customer found using compatible/local/spurious items because of frequent breakdowns and high running costs emerging from the failures”.

When challenged on the above comment by Dhruv Mahajan, Agrawal responded: “We are the OEM. Our statement itself is good enough to prove our point of view.”

Deepak Agrawal has comented to The Recycler: “We stand by our comments on compatible toners being used in any printer/copier of any brand. As an OEM we do not have to substantiate further.

“Further, whereas our customers were using/are using compatible toners are facing pe-mature parts failures, frequent breakdowns, etc.

“Now we have made it mandatory to communicate to our dealers and customers on a regular basis on this subject.”
