30 percent loss of sales since construction began in May 2011, due to continue into the new year.
Cartridge World Wheaton, Chicago, and a number of other local businesses have lamented significant loss of sales since a $52.6 million (€41.1 million) lane-widening construction project began in May 2011 and is scheduled to continue into 2013, reports mysuburbanlife.com.
Franchisee Brock Reed states that the store, based in Danada Square East shopping centre, has experienced a 30 percent decline in retail sales since the beginning of construction. With profits coming from an even 50/50 divide between in-store sales and deliveries, the construction has forced Reed to concentrate on deliveries to counter the shortfall.
Reed comments that “it’s been a nightmare”, and deplores how entrances to the shopping centre have been routinely closed off during the construction, in addition to regular traffic delays. However, Reed states that the franchise has been more fortunate than many other local businesses affected by the construction, who report losses of as much as 50 percent.
“I’m hoping it ends some time soon. It has hurt us.”
All lanes near the Danada shopping centre will open in the coming days according to Illinois Department of Transportation Communication Manager Mike Claffey, although any unfinished work including landscaping will be completed in early 2013.
