Fuji Xerox celebrates success of Eco-Land

OEM products initiative has been operating since 1995, claiming to achieve 99.9 percent recycling rate.

Fuji Xerox has claimed that its Zero Landfill initiative, started in 1995, and work conducted at its Japanese recycling facility Eco-Land achieves a recycling rate of 99.9 percent, reports Waste Management World.

Eco-Land, described as “a big storage facility for old office printers and copiers” is said to house thousands of old office equipment that is labelled and dismantled for recycling, with each product dismantled and arranged according to type and materials.

Fuji Xerox, upon beginning its Zero Landfill scheme, claims to have recycled 99.9 percent of all of its printers and copiers, with Yukihiko Enoki, Recycle Startegy Group, Global Recycling System Manufacturing, commenting: “Today, we can recycle every single part of printers and copiers for reuse in new printers, copiers or other products.”

Enoki attributed the success of the scheme to its three stage process: Inverse Manufacturing, Close Loop System and Zero Emissions: “It starts with the design itself. When we design products, we make sure they can be recycled and reused in the future […] We also design our products to be as robust as possible and for easy disassembling.”
