The OEM showcased the PRO-1, PRO-10 and PRO-100 to “augment the quality of professional photo sharing printing” in India.

The new series of printers have also been said by Canon to be released to “help the company achieve a dominant status in the market” in India, with all three devices also launched alongside a new type of semi-gloss paper from the OEM.

The PIXMA PRO-1, the OEM’s “flagship” device, uses 12 different colour ink tanks each featuring a capacity of 36 mililitres, with print speeds running to printing an A3 bordered full colour photograph in 4.20 minutes. The PIXMA PRO-10 uses 10-colour ink tanks as well as three monochrome inks to “meet the exacting standards of professional photographers”.

The PIXMA PRO-100 in turn has been designed for “vibrant and glossy photos”, with three monochromatic inks – black, grey and light grey – allowing the machine to “produce more accurate dark colours”. Canon’s 19 percent stake in the Indian market is expected to increase by the end of 2013 according to the company’s Indian Senior Vice President Alok Bharadwaj.

Bharadwhaj added: “From 19 percent last year, we are confident of increasing our share in the inkjet category to 25 percent and get revenues worth Rs 150 crore ($27.4 million/€20.5 million) in the segment.”

Canon India’s President and CEO, Kazutada Kobayashi, stated of the market: “India is one of the most crucial markets in the APAC region for Canon. With a large number of growing avid photographers, we believe the PIXMA PRO series will be an innovative solution for photographers’ needs.”

Price-wise, the PRO-1 is available for Rs 94,860 ($1,744/€1,307), the PRO-10 for Rs 65,995 ($1,213/€909) and the PRO-100 for Rs 47,995 ($882/€661).
