Dealer of counterfeit Epson printer cartridges arrested as 6,000 cartridges are seized.
CRN reports that police in Mumbai have raided the premises of a counterfeit cartridges dealer who sold the fake Epson cartridges in two large consumables shops, Mital and Gami, in the Fort area of the city and catered to large parts of west and central India.
The dealer was arrested, along with one of his employees, and over 6,000 refilled Epson cartridges were seized from the premises, which were also shut down by the police.
A spokesperson from Seiko Epson said: “We applaud the efforts of the police to curb this meance and will wholeheartedly assist and support the law enforcement authorities in all such crackdowns. We will continue vigorous enforcement of our intellectual property rights to protect our innovative products against those who use Epson’s patented technology, trademarks, and other intellectual property without permission.”
The Recycler also recently reported on a similar counterfeiting case in Singapore, which resulted in the arrest of a man, his business partner and 11 employees along with the seizure of hundreds of boxes of counterfeit HP ink cartridges.
