Remanufacturing.org.uk reports on the journal, which has been receiving articles from students since 2011, with the articles available for public view and covering a range of different remanufacturing areas.

The site notes that the journal “aims to establish an effective channel of communication between academic and research institutions, industry and persons concerned with the challenges and significance of remanufacturing”, with international students invited to contribute “in order to overcome cultural and national barriers and to meet the needs of global sustainability”.

The international aspect is “emphasized” by the journal’s writers, which note that such collaboration is needed “given the significant adverse ecological impacts of accelerating global industrialization”. Aims that the journal is looking to achieve include establishing an “intellectual foundation and direction” for the development of remanufacturing research, as well as “step changes in remanufacturing knowledge” through a combination of academic and industrial expertise.

The journal is also intending to aid the communication of “practise and research developments to enable [the] industry to use remanufacturing to address competitive, environmental and legislative pressures”. Articles on the site currently include a piece on remanufacturing in China, reverse logistics challenges, analysis of the closed loop supply chain and the life cycle approach to sustainability.

The Journal of Remanufacturing’s Editor-in-Chief , Winifred Ijomah of the University of Strathclyde, stated: “The Journal of Remanufacturing is the first journal that aims to bring together the broad spectrum of knowledge, practice and research in remanufacturing in order to facilitate a holistic understanding of remanufacturing across all the relevant disciplines.

“It seeks to unite and focus academia and industry in advancing the application of remanufacturing in sustainable manufacture. Initiated to address the needs of academia and industrialists for a specific reservoir for remanufacturing knowledge, it acts as a common point to disseminate, record and acquire information about developments, research and practice issues in the field.”
