Ricoh releases line of MFPs for healthcare organisations

Apr 19, 2013

US department of HealthMP C300HW and MP C300HT colour MFPs engineered specifically for use by healthcare professionals.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the new devices from Ricoh are designed to “help healthcare organisations improve outcomes amid rising costs, challenging legislation, security risks and provider consolidation” and complement similar MFPs and printers the OEM announced in March that are also designed for the healthcare sector.

The MFPs print and copy at speeds of 32 pages per minute and allow users to scan records directly to a customer’s secure email system, folders, FTP sites, document servers and archives. The MP C300HW also has the ability to print patient wristbands from electronic medical records, reducing the cost of wristband production by “handling media as narrow as 3.25 inches, reducing consumption of expensive wristband stock”.

Featuring Teflon-coated trays, the devices are able to accommodate wristband stock as well as other specialty papers such as prescription paper, with the Teflon coating minimising feeding errors and increasing efficiency. They can also print on paper up to 8.5 inches by 14 inches in size at resolutions of up to 1200 by 1200 dpi.

Designed to assist organisations with their Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance and privacy requirements, the printers feature Locked Print Technology to hold documents until a password is entered by an authorised user; Hard Drive Encryption to make address books, passwords and other data more secure; and a DataOverWriteSecuritySystem (DOSS) to protect valuable information by overwriting digital images on the hard drive.

Commenting on the new MFPs, Dominic Pontrelli, Senior Vice President, Marketing at Ricoh Americas Corporation, said: “These MFPs are designed specifically to provide the features, attributes and performance that our healthcare clients require to meet their toughest information management challenges. We’ve learned over decades of experience working with these clients that they need business information solutions that are flexible, easy to use, efficient, customizable and secure across the entire continuum of care.”

Both MFPs are available now at a cost of $6,570 (€5,020) for the MPC300HW and $6,260 (€4,783) for the MP C300HT.
