Gizmodo reports on the project, which involves a group of people “with all the patience in the world” from art group Stinsensqueeze who recreate printed images using cyan, magenta, yellow and black (CMYB) halftones coloured by hand.

The project, which was setup in 2009 by Louise Naunton Morgan, aims to “highlight the unique nature of each printing process” and involves two services – HP 1.1, which will generate a one-off production focusing on how the “process deals with images of differing qualities such as tonal contrast, detail, colour spectrums etc.”; and HP 1.2, which is about mass production of images.

According to Colossal, the process “requires not only a knowledge of printing but also plenty of forethought before beginning each piece”.

The project is open to the public, who are invited to upload an image they would like to see hand-printed that meets the group’s requirements and select a colour process. Members of The Human Printer project will then price the image based on the size and detail of the image.
