OEM customer support centre in Conway, Arkansas to lose 500 of its staff amid business restructuring.

Industry Analysts, Inc. reported that HP plans to lay-off 500 of its employees at a customer support centre in Conway, with the OEM informing workers that the cuts are a result of the company’s plans to streamline the business, announced last year as involving the loss of 29,000 jobs within the company worldwide.

The customer support centre was opened in 2010 with an initial workforce of 600 staff and the promise of eventually doubling that number. While an HP spokeswoman reportedly refused to say how many members of staff would remain at the site, officials say that the OEM will continue to operate a business unit in Conway.

The article states the HP has asserted that it will “take steps to offer affected employees assistance during the transition”.

The Recycler has recently reported on further job cuts made by HP, including plans to lay-off 850 workers in Germany due to a site closure, and 280 job losses in Ireland.

Remanufacturer West Point Products has also announced today that it will be cutting 66 jobs at its site in Valley Grove, West Virginia to “increase the efficiency” of its manufacturing and distribution.
