The remanufacturer states the decision is due to “increas[ing] the efficiency” of its manufacturing and distribution.
WTRF reported the lay-offs at the company’s site in Valley Grove, West Virginia, with West Point Products stating that the layoffs were due to plans to “consolidate a portion of its Valley Grove operations into the company’s main site” in Washington, Pennsylvania.
The site also added that layoffs are planned at the Washington facility as well, with the 66 staff currently employed at Valley Grove forming 66 percent of the site’s 100-strong workforce, whilst the Washington site currently employs 150 staff.
The company’s President, Tom Day, issued a statement to the news outlet, saying: “Our industry has been rapidly consolidating for several years resulting in an increasingly challenging market environment. This move will increase the efficiency of our manufacturing and distribution processes, and will enable us to maintain our offerings of high quality, competitively priced products to our customers.
“We regret the impact these moves will have on affected employees and their families and greatly appreciate the contribution of each employee and thank them for their years of dedicated service.”
